The first type of PTO shaft is called domestic, and the second type is called metric. You can identify each type by its shape. The domestic PTO shaft has four shapes: square, rectangular, round and spline. The metric PTO shaft has three shapes, namely, star, bell and football. How do I connect the PTO shaft to the tractor?

PTO shaft accident is one of the most common and serious causes of tractor related injuries. Before using the tractor and implementing PTO shaft components, read and follow all safety instructions and best practices in the tractor and implement operator's manual. Ensure that all shields and other tractor and implement PTO shaft components are in good working condition. Do not use the tractor and implement PTO shaft components when the tractor engine is running or any part of the PTO shaft drive implement is still moving. Connect the PTO shaft to the tractor Generally, to connect the PTO drive shaft of the implement to the rear PTO shaft of the tractor, you must bend down while lifting the heavy PTO shaft of the implement. In addition, when the PTO shaft release collar of the implement is pulled back or the pin lock release device is pressed, the PTO power train spline must be correctly aligned, and the implement shaft must be slid onto the PTO shaft of the tractor at the same time. We know it doesn't sound easy. To help simplify this potentially difficult task, please use these methods provided by experienced tractor operators. (Wearing gloves when connecting the PTO shaft is another wise advice to help avoid cuts and scratches.) First, make sure that the PTO shaft connection is ready (reading the tractor and operating manual is the key to understand the correct setting of the two machines). Most tractors allow you to put the PTO shaft on the tractor in the neutral position. This ensures that the tractor PTO output shaft rotates freely, making it easier to align the splines of the two shafts correctly. If a three-point mounted implement is connected, please note that the three-point linkage is in the full downward position to avoid accidental crushing when someone inadvertently moves the position control lever. Hitches and implements will lower even when the engine is turned off. If the PTO shaft cannot be aligned with the three-point implement in the fully lowered position, the drawbar may need to be removed. When using a three-point implement driven by the PTO shaft, it is usually a good idea to remove the drawbar. This helps to avoid damaging the PTO shaft due to the impact of the shaft on the drawbar when the implement falls to the lower limit of travel of the three-point linkage. Before starting to use the three-point implement driven by the PTO shaft, check the clearance between the PTO shaft and the drawbar. Suppose that your tractor PTO shaft has no neutral setting, and the tractor PTO shaft remains locked when the engine is turned off. In this case, you may need to install the implement on the three-point linkage, raise and lock it in the extended position before turning off the tractor; You should be able to rotate the implement shaft to carefully align the splines. Take extra care not to let your fingers touch the universal joint of the implement PTO shaft, because there may be some momentum after the implement shaft rotates. Next, both PTO shaft ends should be cleaned. It is almost impossible to connect dirty and dry spline shafts. The splined PTO shaft is designed for a tight fit. A small piece of gravel or some crop debris in the soil can prevent the shaft from sliding together. Next, lightly smear the two with grease to help the two closely matched metal plates slide together. Clean oil from clean sources is preferred, but experienced tractor operators know how to improvise on site. After lubrication, the two spline shafts should slide together faster.

On compact tractors and their implements, the PTO shaft connection is not far from the ground. It may be easier to handle the PTO shaft connection on your knees. If you kneel on the proper ground, it will be faster to kneel and lift the weight of the implemented PTO shaft. When you hang the PTO shaft, the car floor mat, a carpet or some strong cardboard will reduce the pressure on your knees. After the splines are aligned, press the locking pin button or pull the ball locking ring backward, and then push the shaft onto the PTO shaft. If it is difficult to slide, sometimes shaking the end of the implement PTO shaft up and down will help start. After starting, slide the shaft – you may hear a click, the button should retract to the original position, otherwise the collar will slide forward. To ensure that the shaft lock is fully in place, pull the hand back from the button or collar to the shaft; It should not be possible to remove. With these simple tips, you can reduce the time of PTO shaft connection and complete the work to be completed faster.

How to cut the PTO shaft to the correct length?

The chipper bearings or the tractor PTO may be damaged. If the PTO shaft is too long, it may get stuck when lifting the linkage. If the PTO shaft is too long, it must be cut off. The equal length must shorten the PTO in two halves. 1. Mount the chipper on the three-point linkage of the tractor. 2. Cut off the engine and remove the key. Place the chipper on a solid and flat surface. 3. Lift the three-point linkage so that the power intake shaft of the chipper is at the same level as the PTO of the tractor. The power take-off and air inlet should be closest to this position. 4. Open the PTO shaft. Connect the halfshaft to the chipper so that the locking pin is locked in place. Align the other end of the chipper with the end of the tractor PTO. Place the ends side by side as shown on the right side of the figure. Mark how much must be cut on the shield. The tube must be short enough not to reach the bottom at any chipper position. 5. Cut the plastic pipe. 6. Cut a piece from the profile pipe with the same length as the piece cut from the protective cover. Shorten the other half of the PTO shaft to the same length. How to cut the PTO shaft to the proper length 7. File off the sharp edges of the profile pipe. You need to remove the burrs on the cut end of the PTO shaft to make the PTO slide correctly. Without proper lubrication, the friction between these bearings is too large. They should be lubricated every eight hours.

PTO shaft maintenance

*Periodically lubricate the bearings according to the manufacturer's recommendations - do not over-lubricate the bearings, as excessive grease will attract dust and dust. *If recommended by the manufacturer, clean the inner and outer sliding surfaces of the telescopic part of the guard daily or more frequently - do not grease the sliding area of the guard unless recommended by the manufacturer.
