What is the Center Spindle? The Center Spindle is a microtubule-based structure that forms in cells during anaphase. It consists of two sets of microtubules emanating from opposite halves of the cell. These filaments are associated with proteins known as motor proteins. These proteins help the central spindle move during cell division. There are several factors that affect the performance of the spindle. For one, heat and contaminants can damage the bearings. The spindle's temperature must stay cool and the spindle should be clean and free from chips or other debris. Heat and chip damage are two of the biggest causes of spindle failure, so it is essential that the spindle stays cool and clean to prevent premature wear. A good way to measure spindle eccentricity is to place the record on the spindle and watch it carefully. If it extends outwards, it is necessary to adjust the center spindle hole. Using the same method, a light pencil mark can be used to measure the center hole on the spindle.
