With a new design, chopper systems are more efficient than ever. The ShortCut rotor features eight rows of knives to improve chop quality while cutting horsepower requirements by up to 27%. The ActiveSpread concept evenly distributes straw to the rest of the combine with no energy use. New Holland recently conducted a Europe-wide survey to determine what priorities customers have when it comes to combining and spreading straw. Crop residue management has been ranked high in customer priorities, so the company has upgraded the chopper and chaff spreader arrangement on rotary CR-series machines. This system chops straw and drops it onto spinning discs for spreading. With 25% more torque, this system ensures even spread width. The PowerCast threshing system includes a dividing door and a 52-knife rotor for evenly chopping straw. The system is fully adjustable from the cab. This chopper system is available in two models. Customers who opt for the 240 series receive an integrated straw chopper and a second chopper unit. This second chopper improves chop and spread over wider headers. In order to improve the efficiency of axial flow combines, the TSR Straw Chopper is available. Its hammers push material through an extra long stationary knife to produce a finely chopped residue. This Straw Chopper assembly mounts in place of the beater assembly and has its own drive. It requires no modification of the combine to install it. With this patented attachment, Case IH customers can enjoy the benefits of using a TSR Straw Chopper with their John Deere combine.
