Trailer axles can be fitted with spindles in one of three ways. For example, in a traditional trailer axle assembly, the spindles are bolted to the ends of a tube axle suspended from springs. Another method uses a torsion beam to provide a smooth, bump-free ride.
Trailer axles generally have two bearings: a front and a rear. The front bearing is closer to the road, while the rear bearing is
closer to the trailer. However, not all bearing pairs are the same size. A tapered spindle will require a larger rear bearing than a straight one. Alternatively, a straight spindle will require the same size for the front and rear bearings.
