Applications
Face conveyors (AFCs): This is the most prominent and critical application of round link chains in underground mining, especially in longwall coal mining. AFCs are heavy-duty chain conveyors that form the backbone of longwall systems. They carry large quantities of coal from shearers (machines that cut the coal) along the coal seam directly to beam loaders and then to the main roadway conveyors. Round link chains, which are usually multi-stranded, are essential to drive large face scraper blades and withstand the tremendous forces and abrasive conditions.
Beam loaders (BSLs): These conveyors are located at the end of the AFCs and carry coal from the AFCs to the main mine conveyor belts. BSLs use round link chains to ensure continuous and efficient transportation of materials.
Face conveyors/Drag chain conveyors: Used in underground mines to transport coal, ore or waste along tunnels, lanes and galleries. Round link chains equipped with scrapers drag the material along the channels. Its rugged and durable properties make it ideal for cramped, dusty and abrasive underground environments.
Plow Systems: In some continuous mining operations, round link chain is an integral part of the plow movement, which mechanically shears coal from the seam and loads it onto a conveyor.
Roadheaders: While primarily used for cutting, some roadheaders may use round link chain for internal material handling or on components that require extreme strength in harsh conditions.
Hauling and Loading: In certain auxiliary applications within the mine, heavy-duty round link chain can be used for hauling or loading functions that require extreme strength and the ability to withstand rough handling.
