The process of injection molding is divided into 6 main steps as shown below.
A mold is a hollow metal block into which molten plastic is injected to form a certain fixed shape. Although not shown in the picture below, there are actually many holes drilled in the block for temperature control via hot water, oil or heaters.
Molten plastic flows into the mold through the gate and fills the cavity through the runner and gate. Then, the mold is opened after the cooling process, and the ejector rod of the injection molding machine pushes the ejector plate of the mold to further eject the mold.
