Their primary function is to support and trough the load bearing side of the conveyor belt (i.e., the upper side of the conveyed material). This troughing action helps contain the conveyed bulk material, prevents material spillage, and optimizes the conveyor belt's load-bearing capacity.
Roller Configuration: Three rollers are the most common. A central horizontal roller forms the flat bottom of the trough, while the two side rollers are angled upward (usually 20°, 35°, or 45°) to form a V-shape or trough. Some heavy-duty applications may require five rollers for a deeper trough.
Frame: The rollers are mounted on a sturdy steel frame that is attached to the conveyor structure.
Sealed Bearings: The rollers contain sealed bearings (such as ball or roller bearings) to ensure smooth, low-friction rotation and protect against dust, dirt, and moisture common in material handling environments.
Grease Fittings (Optional): Some designs contain grease fittings for periodic lubrication, which extends bearing life.
